A Minnesota native, Chris graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.A. in English and Theatre, and launched his career as a freelance film writer, actor, director and producer here in the Bay Area. In addition, he wrote features, essays, interviews and criticism about film, music and culture, and served for more than a decade as a film technician. In 2002, Chris received the Dean Goodman Acting Award and the Best of San Francisco Fringe Award. Chris decided to become a teacher after volunteering at Jose Ortega Elementary School. Before joining SFFS in 2007, Chris taught at the East Bay Conservation Corps Charter School and the Park Day School in Oakland. Chris and his partner were married in the summer of 2010, and spent the 2010-11 school year working overseas (teaching and training teachers) in Papua New Guinea. When he is not in the classroom, Chris enjoys being on the move outside - hiking, biking, climbing and kayaking.
