Our Beginnings
San Francisco Friends School is a K-8 independent school serving more than 400 students in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Our goal is to deliver an outstanding academic education that integrates the Quaker values of simplicity, integrity, mutual respect, service to others, and peaceful problem-solving. We are dedicated to creating educational experiences that drive intellectual development and are informed by sustained, thoughtful conversation about the social, physical, emotional and spiritual growth of our children.
In 2002, San Francisco Friends School opened its doors to its first class of kindergarteners. The school was founded by the concerted efforts of parents, educators, business people, and civic members who all felt the need for a Quaker school in San Francisco. In 2008, the Friends School moved into its new home in the beautifully refurbished Levi Strauss building in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Today, those original kindergarteners have entered high schools across the city and the Friends School has become an established member of the San Francisco independent school community.
