Porter, Jeff
Fourth Grade Teacher

Jeff, a pioneering member of the fourth grade team, was born in the Panama Canal Zone and moved twenty times before the age of 18 due to his father’s career in the U.S. Army and at West Point. He developed an interest in Native American culture as a teenager, especially the Cherokee, Comanche, Kiowa, and Apache Indians near his home in Oklahoma. He became a fancy feather dancer during this time, and performed at festivals and pow-wows in the southwest. Jeff graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Visual Communications, and came to San Francisco to complete his M.F.A. at San Francisco Art Institute. Jeff has taught children and adolescents as part of Performing Arts Workshop and worked in media design and documentary films. Jeff performs with the Barbary Coast Cloggers, an all-male precision clogging group, and tends an organic garden, an interest of his for more than twenty years.
