Chapman, Paul

Board of Trustees

Paul Chapman is the executive director of Inverness Associates, an educational consulting firm that supports schools in sustainability, strategic planning, and effective management.  He is especially interested in developing “green” schools.  Previously he served as Head of the Head-Royce School, Assistant Head at San Francisco University High School and Associate Director of Admissions at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.  Raised near Chicago, he graduated from Hinsdale High School and received a B.A. in history from Yale and an M.A. in American history and a Ph.D. in the history of education from Stanford.  In the 2010-2011 school year he was visiting scholar at Stanford and UC Berkeley.  Currently he serves on the boards of NAIS, San Francisco Friends School, School Year Abroad, and the advisory boards of the UC Berkeley Library, SAGE (Sustainable Agriculture Education) and the Go Green Foundation.  He and his wife Helen have three grown children, all independent school graduates, who work in marketing, international law and elementary education.  He enjoys reading, fishing, traveling and hiking with his Golden Retriever.
