Brokemond, Shawn
Kindergarten Teacher

A native of Indiana, Shawn received her BA in Early Childhood Education from DePaul University in Chicago. Shawn has taught at the San Francisco School, Pacific Primary, Marin Country Day School and Windrush School in the East Bay. Shawn has attended a Lucy Calkins workshop entitled “The Art of Teaching Writing” at Columbia University, a Lindamood Bell seminar on language development and phonemic awareness, a Math Perspectives workshop in Boston and a “Responsive Classroom” seminar in New York. She has represented SFFS at the 2004 NAIS People of Color Conference and the 2009 POCIS (People of Color in Independent Schools.) She studied Spanish in Guatemala and Panama and taught in Tanzania during a “mini-sabbatical” in the spring of 2008. An avid triathlete, snowboarder, basketball player and sky diver, Shawn lives in Mill Valley with her partner, Dan. Her son, Josh, lives in Oakland.
